ALISON SHARP

Alison Sharp

I have always sewn and made things in one form or another from an early age. I remember making tiny dolls shoes from leather to help my mum in her hobby, restoring antique porcelain dolls to earn pocket money! As I got older I collected fabrics, made clothes and decided to study Dress Design and Light Clothing Technology at Jacob Kramer College in Leeds.

After completing the 3 year course, my career started out in the clothing industry, Initially at a pyjama factory, then a fleece making company where I learnt the whole process from design through the production and sale of the products.

I started my own business after moving to Hebden Bridge in 1990. Over the years, I have made a wide variety of adults and children’s clothes, wedding dresses, soft furnishings, including Roman blinds and curtains.

I have recently decided to pursue a more creative avenue of work and have developed a small collection using mostly natural fabrics and appliqué to make practical and sometimes personalised gifts and household items, such as face masks, cushion covers, bunting, storage baskets, key rings, bags, make-up bags, peg bags, knitting bags, baby items, tissue box covers, as well as continuing to supply made to measure blinds and curtains to my existing customers.

I have never advertised my work, with new customers contacting me through recommendations from others and on Facebook.

Qualified in design and pattern cutting, with 50 years experience in sewing. I create funky and unique handmade soft furnishings and practical items for the home, using natural fabrics and colours.
