I’ve always had a creative soul. As a child, I declared I wanted to be an artist. I missed out on formal art education. Instead, I followed a path that led me to work in community care for over 30 years. Despite this long detour my passion for art never faded but I was inhibited to create or let alone share my art.
However, on June 29, 2008 at Glastonbury, listening to Leonard Cohen’s “Anthem” for the first time. I heard the words, “..forget your perfect offering. There is a crack, a crack in everything, That’s how the light gets in.
That spark guided a return to my creative roots.
This year marks my second venture with Open Studios. After building my shed/ art studio from reclaimed materials at the bottom of the garden, I’ve been enjoying the freedom to play, experiment, and create. (For shed building journey- see my instagram)
My recent work has focused on memories, coastal walks, and festivals, alongside a series of intuitive portraits that may or may not be connected to Emily Brontë.
I’m looking forward to meeting you back in the museum undercrofts, there are even more artists in there this year. I can also be found on the window trail.
Thanks for joining me on this path, and I encourage you to be kind, be inspired, and let your own light shine in.
