There’s a lot of magic in these hills, moors and woods…. that’s what I love to paint. When the lines between the weather and the hills blur, and that’s the mood I try to capture, to give you a sense of being there out in the hills, breathing the air, feeling the full force of the (mainly) Yorkshire landscape.
When I paint, I work from my photographs, but also I hold the memory of the day in my heart and finally just let go and let the paint do the work, I work quickly and often will paint two or three paintings of the same scene, one after the other, so that by the end your brush already knows the strokes its going to make and you, the artist, can let go some more.
The more I paint, the more it feels like I’m painting jazz.
Roughly hewn – heart felt.
If you’ve aspired to owning original art, the Open Studios is a great way to take in lots of different styles from many artists in one weekend. I recommend you set yourself an art budget in advance, that way it makes decision making a lot smoother if and when you see something you like. It’s such a great feeling to own original art, to build your collection of completely unique pieces and also support local artists. I’d love to see you at my Heptonstall home studio – I have lots of different sizes of original oil paintngs, from post-card sized, oil painting on board at 18x24cm and various sized canvasses up to 50x50cm. I can help with framing of all of these and will have some examples to show you. Prices starting from £25 to approx £350. I also have lovely art cards.
We have a great collective of Heptonstall artists showing this year, and we’d love to see you.
