I am a painter based in West Yorkshire.
After graduating from Leeds Met University with a degree in Fine Art, I left the art world behind for a career in book selling.
I have returned to painting in the last few years and paint contemporary landscapes, occasionally en plein-air, mostly in oils.
I’m most interested the nature of landscape where it has been marked and shaped by the people who live there.
The stone walls, houses, farms, mills and trackways of the Pennine hills are a record of the entwined history of the land and its inhabitants.
Getting outside to paint and draw allows me to respond to the way that light, weather and the seasons constantly transform the landscape.
I want my paintings to be direct and unsentimental but to reflect the deep connections between people and place.
