My work is mainly painting and printmaking with inspiration taken from my many walks around Calderdale, using photographs, sketching, memory, emotion and imagination to create my work.
These paintings were derived from my many walks around Calderdale. Since moving back to the north I find myself with a bit more time and when I am not in my studio painting I will be off out walking on the hills or in the woods. I often do a few quick sketches and take hundreds of quick photographs on my phone in the hope of a surprising result. My paintings start off with quick gestural marks and I slowly build up the layers until i'm happy with the results. This can often take a year or two until i'm happy with it but sometimes I can capture what I want in a day; mood and feelings play an important part in this process.
