There’s a lot of magic in these hills, moors and woods…. that’s what I love to paint. When the lines between the weather and the hills blur, and that’s the mood I try to capture, to give you a sense of being there out in the hills, breathing the air, feeling the full force of the (mainly) Yorkshire landscape.
When I paint, I work from my photographs, but also I hold the memory of the day in my heart and finally just let go and let the paint do the work, I work quickly and often will paint two or three paintings of the same scene, one after the other, so that by the end your brush already knows the strokes its going to make and you, the artist, can let go some more.
I love this quote from visitor to a pre-lockdown exhibition of my moor paintings: “It’s like looking at a wall of weather”. And really it was. So I hope you enjoy visiting my art and that you too get a sense of the stark beauty I see.
I am not open for the open studios weekend, but will open by private appointment. My work will also be exhibited at Cafe Solo in Hebden Bridge during the Open Studios weekend and beyond.
