I paint and draw imperfect scenes of cute, awkward, shy, reading, swimming, acrobatic, travelling girls. My work is full of beautifully mismatched colours, too-long scarves, crooked boats, uneven umbrellas and curious cats. I love how every day things bring new ideas for me to paint and I love taking every day scenes and creating whimsical, light, joyful art, usually centred around the themes of reading, books, travel, swimming, animals and nature.
My studio is based in my sunny hilltop home in Midgley with stunning views over the Calder Valley. Up the road is an alpaca farm and a swimming reservoir, down the road are two hairy cows with long twisted horns, and all around are stunning nature walks with spectacular views, rivers, moors, woodlands, wildflowers and gnarly trees. My work table is a mess of paints, jars of paint water, pencils, pencil shavings, paper and messy card covered in splotches of colour. I use a variety of mediums to create my work, including watercolour, gouache, pencil, graphite, charcoal, even good old Yorkshire Tea!
Each of my paintings is a little homage to people who love life, are a bit introverted or who find comfort in colour and books. There is zero perfection in my art and this is because the most perfect thing about each of us is that thing, that to others, seems most imperfect.
Moss (our cat) and I would love to welcome you into our sunny, happy space. Feel free to message me ahead of arrival if you’d like a freshly brewed tea or coffee!
