I’m based in Hebden Bridge and paint from my home a couple of minutes walk from the town centre.
My work is also being exhibited at Hope Gallery in Hebden Bridge (Old Gate, HX7 6EN) and additional originals can be see there.
I apply paints in some non-traditional ways using unconventional tools and thick watercolour paints with the goal of creating striking scenes capturing movement and drama.
Watercolour paints allow me to play with light and shadow in bold ways, while maintaining a sense of mystery and obscurity. I seek to continuously examine the boundary between the real and the imagined, employing intuitive and meditative painting methods to create scenes that are seemingly both familiar and distant. While many of my paintings are inspired by real places, I rarely paint specific locations.
Some of the most rewarding and exciting feedback I’ve received from clients and visitors is that viewing a painting feels like grasping at a memory.
I take inspiration from my walks and camps in nature. Stormy weather and the Welsh coast as well as the hills and patchwork fields surrounding my home in West Yorkshire are particularly close to my heart.
