My hand built ceramics are made from white earthenware clay. I am a small batch potter and everything I make is made in my small home studio. I use many techniques from slab building to moulds that I have made myself. I decorate my pieces using various methods. Some impressed with different patterns of vintage lace. Others I decorate first with paper templates. The paper templates are of simplified flower or leaf shapes or possibly a bird. I brush on coloured slips with quick vibrant brush strokes, they are then bisque fired. More details are added with brush on underglazes and pencils. Each piece is then glazed and fired with a luscious clear glaze. Every piece is handmade from start to finish so it is truly one a kind. I love all the processes of hand building there is always something new to learn. Still get a bit tense when opening the kiln after a firing hoping everything is as expected but there are always a few surprises.
