I am an artist and designer with a background in theatre, fine art and textiles. MAPWORKS is a development of the furniture I design for public buildings, upholstered with large-scale maps and text.
After creating lounges for London’s Royal Festival Hall that included chairs with integrated speakers, I have designed TALKING CHAIRS for libraries, schools, museums and historic buildings. These include the Map Chair in Hebden Bridge Town Hall.
My artwork for public spaces includes three large sculptural chairs for Chester Zoo for a festival of art and gardens visited by over a million people. A highlight of the project was working with the zoo’s horticultural team to design permanent gardens to surround the chairs.
My largest artwork to date was a 200 metre landscape artwork for a hilltop, made to celebrate the Tour de France starting in Yorkshire. The design depicts a murmeration of starlings.
