I am a figurative oil painter with a love of contrast and a rich palette. My paintings reflect my mood, from nudes and portraits to florals in vases. I use a combination of the brush and palette knife to create texture and depth.
My gallery shop in the old weaving mill along the canal is also my workshop where I restore and reupholster antique and vintage furniture. The interiors side for me is an extension of my art, working with luxury designer velvets to create beautiful pieces that will be reloved for many more years to come. I’m a lover of Art Deco and punk, and continually source eclectic pieces to restore.
I grew up on the Main Street in Haworth and spent the first 20 years of my life there before moving away, eventually returning to live in Hebden Bridge where we have had a place here for the last 30 years. My background has always been a creative one coming from a family of artists. During my childhood I would often be the subject of many paintings by my father, Tom Durkin. My parents ran a gallery and emporium so I feel very much at home in the space I have created in the mill.
