I like to create expressive oil portraits with a strong physical likeness and to use colour, composition and mark-making to express the personality, life and character of the sitter. My heart is in portrait painting but I am also inspired by a love of the outdoors and of nature. My frequent ramblings around the moors and woodlands of the Calder Valley give me a deep sense of connection with this landscape and inspire me to create paintings which seek to capture a sense of place, light and atmosphere.
More recently i have begun to explore more illustrative styles of painting and drawing and have designed Christmas cards for a local wildlife charity, I’ll have these cards for sale at Open Studios and all profits go to Calderdale Badgers Protection Group.
