My workshop is in The Big Tin Shed, where I restore and reupholster furniture. My favourite chairs are those with a story to tell, that have sentimental value and a connection through memories to other people.
As well as restoring and upholstering furniture I find, I take commissions from clients. I work with them unraveling the story of their piece of furniture and retelling it in the upholstery process and in finding just the right fabric to continue their story on.
I love the art of traditional upholstery, the use of natural resources, the beauty and details of a hand stitched sprung seat hidden beneath the top coat fabric, that nobody sees.
Being brought up with the ethos of make-do and mend I believe now more than ever we should restore and make new what we can, keeping things out of landfill and from going to waste.
