Brier Hey Pottery was originally established by the master potter David Constantine White in 1981. He worked from the original site in Mytholmroyd until his untimely death in 2011. At his request, friend and local ceramist Sue Turner kept the Pottery going with a group of 5 others until it eventually closed in 2016 due to the poor state of the building.
The new Brier Hey reopened, at its current location, In August 2022 and provides communal facilities for around 20 established and emerging ceramists. It operates on a not-for-profit basis with full disabled access.
Brier Hey potters all work independently whilst enjoying the support and advice available from their fellow makers. Facilities include 700 sq. ft of communal studio space plus a library area and separate kiln, glaze and store rooms. A small permanent collection of work by David Constantine White is also available to view.
The pottery was set up and is managed by Sue and Barry Turner with generous support from David White’s Trust Fund and the help of his Trustees.
