I love to combine the technical drawing of architectural subjects with landscape and the decorative nature of textile design. I work mainly in layers of inks, acrylics and watercolours. I build up the layers to get a depth of colour and texture. The lines of gold thread in my work draw your eye across the page – highlighting paths or exaggerating curves. Gold leaf adds texture and richness, and means that the surface of the painting changes as the light changes.
I studied fine art at university, specialising in textile design. My work is full of pattern! I was then a commercial textile designer for many years. I began painting landscapes when i moved to Hebden Bridge in 2005 and left the sensible job in 2006 and become a full time artist.
