“I was made for an age of dirt roads, soft light, quiet skies” – to quote a poet.
Art, for me, is sometimes also an act of resistance—not only through protest, but in resisting today’s algorithmic world’s pull to all the negative … through spreading beauty, energy, and a deep love for our world. Its natural rich and triumphant lifeforce outdoes all. Energised by light, texture, colour, composition, inspiration, and movement. And implanted, and expressed back, through paintbrush to canvas, lens to camera, pen to paper.
I don’t fit into a neat artistic box—my work is loose, life-filled, expressive, grounded. Shaped, tested, and seasoned from my years in my country of birth, South Africa, and enriched and deepened by my life in Yorkshire.
My hope is that when you see my art, you don’t just look at it—you feel it. A sense of lightness, a spark of something familiar. A connection to something bigger. Because sometimes, in a world that feels chaotic, choosing to create something beautiful is its own kind of resistance”.
When you welcome my art into your space, you’re inviting a piece of this perspective—a way of seeing that reminds us of life’s calm and joy, and instilling a bit of nature’s magic into our everyday lives.
Inspired by kindred-spirit artists such as van Gogh, Monet, Cezanne, Georgia o’Keefe, in particular. My short journey from home to my Cragg Vale studio in the Calder Valley is always a new source of inspiration and reminder of nature’s abundance.
